U.S. Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.) has made it clear that he is willing to consider voting in favor of impeaching Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas over the construction of two 30-foot-long walls along the border with Mexico. The walls are located in Friendship Park, which is situated on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean between San Diego and Tijuana. Vargas had been previously promised by Mayorkas that the construction would cease, however work on the walls began a few weeks ago and is expected to be finished in six months. Officials from the United States. Border Patrol have stated that the existing barriers have become unsafe for migrants, agents and the public due to their deterioration. Vargas and other local leaders expressed their worries that the new walls will obstruct the public access to the area. Two articles of impeachment have been brought up in the House against Mayorkas, and Vargas is the first Democrat to publicly suggest he is open to voting for the impeachment.
